State-of-the-art simulation lab is available to Providence residents of all specialties. Monthly sessions are scheduled for faculty-supervised, hands-on simulation of interventional procedures including thoracentesis, paracentesis, vascular access, and ultrasound-guided biopsy. Mannequins and phantoms are used, allowing junior residents to develop the dexterity and coordination required for the procedures. Diagnostic ultrasound simulation is also included in the curriculum, using SonoSim software, mannequins, and peer volunteers.

Research Facilities

A new laboratory and research facility was opened at the hospital in January of 2002. The Biomedical Research department consists of over 8,000 square feet of dedicated space staffed by several full time employees. There are microvascular, gross anatomy and basic science areas within this space. Click here for more information. Established in 2017 is the Simulation and Education center, a surgical skills and education facility of almost 7000 square feet.
